There is something special about going to the local farmer’s market. I love walking around all the stalls of the local farmers with the vibrant colours and the smell of fresh produce. However I always feel sad, when they put this amazing produce into a plastic bag for me to carry home. I know, I am not the only one feeling this way and lucky for us, there are some wonderful patterns available out there in either crochet, knit or sew. So whatever your craft, let us get rid of these bland “bad-for-the-environment” plastic bags and use our awesome skills to make unique ever-lasting ones instead.
Crocheted Market Tote

The patterns for Crocheted Market Totes are often made in a mesh variation, but I find that my groceries then poke out everywhere, so I decided on a solid stitch instead. I have used Herringbone DC for the base and frontposts/backposts for the top and string. The long solid string makes it easy to carry on your shoulder without hurting it.
Even though I made this with farmer’s market in mind, you do not necessarily only have to use it for that. The size of this makes it easy to carry anything really… Use it going to the beach or even the library.
It might be more sensible to crochet this tote in a cotton yarn, if you intend to use it on sunny days. I highly recommend DMC Natura either in the Denim or one colour Medium version.
I look forward to seeing all your amazing totes!
