Frontpost Crochet (FP)
Frontpost Crochet can be made in any of the basic stitches such as single Crochet, Halfdouble Crochet or Double Crochet. For these three the abbreviations will be FPSC, FPHDC and FPDC. These stitches are made around the stem of the stitch of the previous row. For this reason you have to work your first row in any of the basic stitches. Because you work around the stem, the stitch is shorter than its basic counterpart. As a result your turning chain should be 1 chain less. for example in double crochet a row of frontpost double crochet will begin with chain 2.
