double stitch (DS)

The Double Stitch is one of those stitches where the definition of the stitch is only showing on one side. I would therefore recommend only using it in projects worked in the round. At the same time I find the beauty of it comes out best in chunkier yarns. Often the characteristics are too indistinct in thinner yarns.

Step 1

Apart from the first stitch, all other stitches begin in the same stitch as the last stitch of the previous.
Push your hook through the “V”. Place your yarn around your hook and pull back through the “V” – you now have two loops on the hook

Step 2

Push your hook through the following “V”. Place your yarn around your hook and pull back through – you now have three loops on the hook.

Step 3

Place your yarn around your hook and pull through all three loops closing the stitch.
As you have probably already figured out, this stitch is an yarn hoarder. You do more or less use twice the yarn of crocheting single crochets.
Why this stitch is still awesome though, is because of the straight lines it creates both in length and width. If you like embroidery, this stitch will make your cross stitches look really neat on top.
